Relationship and Couples Counseling

“The quality of your life ultimately depends on the quality of your relationships . . . which are basically a reflection of your sense of decency, your ability to think of others, your generosity.”

                              ― Esther Perel

Relationships are both wonderful and challenging. When conflict inevitably arises, we can struggle to know what to do.

Counseling can help if you are hoping to address some long standing relationship issues. You may even fear a break up or divorce if nothing changes soon. Patterns that have developed in your relationship in the past may be harmful to your future together.

Couples/relationship therapy can also be useful not just as a "last ditch effort", but also as a way to build a strong foundation together for the future. You may be seeking pre-marital counseling, considering moving in together or opening up your relationship, or have some uncertainty about your relationship. Maybe you want to avoid repeating the relationship patterns of your parents or notice that past trauma is impacting your love life. Perhaps you are poly or ENM with a few partners or are in a platonic relationship and need help. I am an affirming therapist for relationship counseling of all types.

Whatever your reasons are, when we sit down together in therapy, I will help you and your partner(s) to get to the root of your concerns so that we can adequately address them.

I enjoy helping relationships connect on a deeper level and understand each other in ways they struggled to do on their own. Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman approach, as well as sex therapy training, guide my work with couples and relationships. As a sex therapist, I am able to help with concerns related to sex that sometimes go unaddressed in couples counseling.
